Drama Club Permission Slip

Drama Club Permission Slip

25 August 2023

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Hello!! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Missy Fosnight and I am the Drama Class Instructor/Drama Club Sponsor. I have made some significant changes to the theater program this year and I am really looking forward to getting started.

So… what’s new about our theater program this year?

This year I am opening Drama Club to all USD 447 middle school students. The middle school students will have an opportunity to participate in several areas including but not limited to performing on-stage as extras or with minimal to no speaking lines, singing with the theater choir, helping create performance flyers, programs, and t-shirts, working with the stage crew, most importantly, they will be working side by side with upperclassmen learning the little tips and tricks to being successful in the theater.

Joining Drama Class/Club allows students an opportunity to develop better self-confidence, help overcome the anxiety of public speaking, enhance team-building skills, and among many other things, students will be part of something they will cherish for a lifetime.

  • Students who participate in Drama Class and/or Club for all 4 years of high school, and are in good standing with attendance, participation, and teamwork, will earn an honors cord at graduation.
  • Students who are in Drama Club, who are in good standing with attendance, participation, and teamwork will also be able to:
  • attend theatrical performances and workshops at Independence Community College.
  • participate in the 2023-2024 1st Annual End-of-the-Year Drama Class/Club party.
  • If a student fails to participate in practices, set-ups, play performances, tear-downs, etc. they will not be allowed to participate in trips or any other special events, and will be asked to reevaluate their decision to be a member of Drama Club.

Which play are we performing this fall?

For our first production, we will be performing the Nutcracker musical based on the original E.T.A. Hoffman Tale, with songs by Tchaikovsky, adapted by Patrick Rainville Dorn, and Bill Francoeur, and published by Pioneer Drama Service, Inc.

  • Middle school students will have the opportunity to fill roles including ballerinas, soldiers, guards, mice, and extra toys.
Practice: When, Where, & How Long?  We will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm in our classroom at the High School beginning on Wednesday, August 30th. Students will need to meet at the back door located by the boy’s locker area. Students will need transportation to and from practice.
